I am pleased to announce the 19th EECERA Conference, which will take place in Strasbourg, France 26th, 27th, 28th, 29th August 2009, organized by EECERA the European Early Childhood Education Research Association in collaboration with the french association Le Furet “Early Childhood and Diversity”.
The theme for the 19th EECERA Annual Conference is Diversities in early Childhood education. This theme will be addressed from the perspective of the rights of younger children and their families.The education of young children today is increasingly tackled in variable and complex ways, and the environments in which they live, both at home and in education and care, can be equally variable.
A main goal of the conference is to explore these multiple diversities in Europe and beyond, taking into account the various approaches of research itself, regarding methods, theories and paradigms implemented.
All papers, posters, symposia and proposals for discussion groups on relevant subjects will be considered.
Papers are invited around the following strands (deadline 13th of March):
Diversity linked with migrations
Diversity of languages, cultures, religions and beliefs
Divesity linked with social situations and poverty
Diversity linked to disability or illness
Diversity linked with gender
Diversity in audiences (children, parents)
Diversity in educational contexts (education in the family, media, quality of life, living conditions)
Diversity in services and institutions (both at home and abroad)
Diversity of professionals (including gender)
Diversity in systems and policies of care and education in early chidhood
Diversity in educational practices
Diversity in theoretical references and methodologies.
Keynote speakers :
Dr. Michel Vandenbroeck, University of Ghent (Belgium), co-founder of the European network DECET (Diversity in Early Childhood Education and Training).
Dr. Nacira Guénif-Souilamas, University Paris 13 (France), sociologist of immigration, member of the international project Children Crossing Borders CCB.
Prof. Miriam Rosenthal, Hebrew University, Jerusalem (Israel), author of a well-known cultural approach of child care, family expectations and quality in early childhood education.
Dr. Beata Laciak, University of Warsaw (Poland), author of studies within the Department of Sociology and Rights in the Institute of Applied Social Sciences.
Prof. Martin Woodhead, Open University (United Kingdom) Special Counsellor at the United Nations for the rights of children in Geneva.
